7 Tips To Paint Your Hall in Ottawa, Ontario

1. Use Easy To Clean Paint

One important thing you’re going to need to do when you’re painting your hall is to make sure that you use easy to clean paint.

The key to having easy to clean paint is to make sure that the one that you use is higher in gloss — flatter paint may sometimes hide blemishes in the surface better but it’s harder to clean.

Since halls tend to be high in traffic and often feature people who walk up and down them with hands that have mixed statuses of cleanliness, it’s a good idea to have walls that are easier to clean.

2. Consider Light And Color

You may be well aware of the fact that light and color go together hand in hand, and that the way that color looks in one light is not at all the same the way that it will look in another.

With that being true, you should not just look at how a paint swatch is going to look in a paint store to determine if that’s going to be a good look in your hall.

Instead, you should look at the paint samples that good paint stores offer and will be able to paint a little bit of the surface on the hall wall, and then you’ll see in true color how it will appear to you when you have your lights on, off, etc.

3. Look Down As Well When Choosing Color

Another good thing to do when you’re looking to make a choice in your color for painting your hall is to think about how the color of the hall is going to look compared to the color or colors on the floor as it were.

If you have carpeting, for example, you very well might have at least a couple of colors going on and it’s important that your wall color or colors don’t clash too much or at all with these colors.

4. Clean Before Painting

In any given painting project, you will have to make the time to clean before you start if you hope to have a well painted surface.

This means not only cleaning the surface that’s going to be painted but also the area in which you are painting – as if you have a dirty work area you’re going to end up having dirty walls.

Make the time to clean the walls and the area where you’re painting and you’ll find the halls will look that much better.

5. Protect Your Flooring

There are many ways that a painting project can go wrong, and in most every case it has something to do with paint getting to where it does not need to be.

We all want to think that we are expert painters but even the best of painters is going to have paint dripping from their brushes and rollers — and when that paint drips, it’s going to fall down to the floor ultimately and possibly make for a big mess.

If on the other hand, you have a good drop cloth laying there you will be able to know that the floors won’t get any paint on them.

6. Allow Surfaces To Dry

One of the biggest mistakes that people make when they’re painting is to try to paint over a moist surface in a way to get their painting project done as quickly as possible.

This is such a mistake because all they end up doing is causing bad paintwork which may not even necessarily show up immediately — it could be weeks or months after the painting project has been completed.

Best to make the time to allow surfaces to fully dry before you move on to the next step in the painting project.

7. Carefully Ventilate

As you often will have a relatively long hall, you may think that no ventilation will be necessary because ventilation will somehow be built into the very painting project you’re doing.

This is not, however, necessarily the case – you should make sure that you have a window or two open, perhaps even a few doors to get some sort of cross breeze going as it were.
