How Important Is Paint Prep in Ottawa, Ontario? Here Are 5 Ways It is
There are many steps to the painting process that will get you from having an unpainted wall to having a well-painted wall — and just about all of them are going to be important if you want to get the project done well.
When you look at all of them, you’ll come to realize that if you skip the early ones you will come away with a paint job that is not done well.
This leads us to the very important question with its own answer — how important is paint prep in Ottawa, Ontario — here are five ways it is.
1. It Removes The Dust Possibility From Your Painted Surfaces
One good thing that will come of your paint preparation is when you take the time to clean the areas that are going to be painted.
Though some people of course will not take this time and you will know that this is the case because you will look at the walls in their home and you will see actual dust blended in with the paint on the wall, and it’s a rather unfortunate sight.
This is especially when you realize how it could have been avoided would the person or people involved made the time to clean before painting.
2. It Will Ensure You Have Enough Paint
Another important part of preparing before you do a paint job is to make sure that you measure the walls — and there are two purposes for this measuring.
One of them is to make sure that you have enough paint for your paintwork — for there are few things that are more frustrating than running out of paint while you are painting a room, for example.
Just as bad, but differently bad, is to have way too much paint at the time that you are painting — for when you have that much more paint, you’ve not only wasted money but you’ll have paint that either will go bad (yes it goes bad) or you will donate the paint and you’ll have wasted money.
3. It Will Give You The Best Painting Schedule
Another important aspect of preparing to paint is to have a good paint schedule — and true, you could of course just jump right into a painting project with no schedule at all…
The problem with doing this is that you will end up with a painting project that’s going to take you a lot longer to do than if you were to make a good schedule and stick to it.
The issue with a lot of painting projects is that people tend to not understand how much time it takes to let surfaces dry — in most cases, it will take a few hours.
Because of this, it is good to plan your drying time to when you wouldn’t be normally doing anything else, so you can perhaps even allow surfaces to dry overnight rather than having to walk away from the project until hours later with nothing to do.
4. It Will Give You Well Sanded Surfaces
It’s crucial that you have well-sanded surfaces upon which your paint will later go, and this should be clear — but here is why.
The smoother your surface, the easier it will be to paint and one way that you’ll be able to achieve a smooth surface is by fully sanding the surface that’s going to get painted.
Skipping this step won’t necessarily mean that your painted walls will be rough, of course, but there’s a better chance of a nice-looking paint job when you sand first.
5. It Will Mean Your Floor Gets No Paint On It
Lastly (at least in this blog) think about the average painting job that has no prep to it and how people will just start painting their walls… or other surfaces… and you will most likely find people who aren’t properly protecting surfaces from paint.
While you may think that this is no big deal, it is indeed as the process of getting paint off of surfaces where it was not intended is a lot more difficult than making the time to protect them first.
