How to Design the perfect & functional dining room in Ottawa, Ontario
The perfect place to spend good times with family and friends in the dining room.
Sometimes neglected for the kitchen island, the time has come to give your dining room its full place.
Here are our best tips for designing and arranging your living room functionally and, above all making this space an up-to-date room.
Choosing the Right Room for Your Dining Room
Most of the dining areas are located in or are an extension of the kitchen.
If so, be sure to match your dining room to the style of your kitchen.
It is also important to leave a good space around your table to facilitate movement, especially if your table is in the middle of the kitchen.
If your dining room is in a room apart from the kitchen, choose a very bright space with large windows that allow you to admire the exterior décor.
And above all, have fun decorating because this room deserves to have a style of its own.
Little advice: Choose a room with one or more windows. You will want to have a good time with your family there. The benefits of natural light should never be underestimated.
Choosing the right dining room table
The first thing to do before setting up your dining room is to measure the space in the room and choose your future table (in a corner, on the edge of the window, in the center of the room?).
With this information, you will be able to choose the perfect table for you. Don’t hesitate to opt for a smaller table, or even around one, to maximize space or sit closer to each other.
Tip: Be reasonable; do not buy your table on impulse without taking the measurements in your dining room.
Chairs, Bench, Sofa, etc…
What a pleasure to arrange chairs at your new table! If you are more conventional, buy the chairs that match your table.
If you want to have a little fun, combine several chairs and models for a unique result.
Avoid placing too many chairs around your table to avoid congestion.
A quick tip: Measure the height of your table before choosing your chairs. Not all tables and chairs are standard, be sure to arrange the two well to be seated at the correct height.
If your dining space allows it, custom benches are also an option.
Leaning against the wall, in the corner of a room, or even below a window, the benches add to the decor and are comfortable.
The simple benches are also charming and wonderfully replace the traditional chairs. Place small cushions for more comfort.
The Wall Color/Décor
The color on the walls of a dining room is yes. However, if your room lacks light, choose a lighter shade. If not, have fun. Paint only one wall or even the ceiling, put up the wallpaper you’ve been dreaming of for a long time… All ideas are good.
A quick tip: Avoid painting the walls before you have chosen your table and chairs. Rather, base the decor on your furniture or on a decorative element that inspires you.
Rugs and cushions for the look
Place a nice rug below your table to demarcate the space and add to the decor.
Of course, with young children, opt for a darker rug or one that washes easily.
Do not hesitate to add cushions to the chairs for more comfort.
A quick tip: Measure your table and chairs to choose the correct size rug. This should cover the surface of the floor, including the chairs removed from the table. So you can move your chair back and forth without hanging up the mat.
