Dining Room Cabinet Painting Tricks in Ottawa, Ontario
You may well know that getting your dining room cabinets painted is one way that you can get the room to look better, sometimes with a much better budget than if you were to replace the cabinet entirely.
Of course, if you know what you’re doing more it helps you with the painting process and work on getting it done right, you can look forward to having well painted dining room cabinets.
Let’s look at some dining room cabinet painting tricks that you can take advantage of and improve your paintwork.
1. Remove The Doors And Drawers
When you’re looking to paint your dining room cabinets, it’s important to remove both the doors and drawers before you begin the painting process to make sure that the painting goes well.
The reason that this is going to be so helpful and beneficial to you is because you can pretty much guarantee that if your doors and drawers are attached, it will be that much more difficult to paint the cabinets.
Moreover, by removing said doors and drawers it will be a lot easier to paint them — and it will be a lot easier for them to properly dry.
2. Consider New Hardware
While you have the hardware (the pulls) off of the cabinets, you might want to have a good look at the cabinets and think about what role the hardware serves and if there would be any hardware that could possibly look better on the cabinets.
The good thing about having this option or these options open to you is that you have quite a number of places available as far as hardware shopping goes — you can even sometimes find good hardware for your dining room cabinet in thrift stores, though of course that is more a matter of happening to be there at the right time as it were.
3. Protecting The Floor When Painting
Though you might not realize it, it’s quite important that you make the time to protect the floor during the painting process so that you don’t get any paint on it.
The thing about painting your dining room cabinets is that no matter how carefully you are painting and how the paint that you use may claim to be free of drips, any paint by nature and by the force of gravity is going to drip slowly down and so if you have nothing on. the floor to protect from the drips, you will find yourself spending a lot of time cleaning that very same paint off of the floor.
The problem with having the mentality of just wanting to clean it up later is that it actually takes a lot more time to clean paint off of the floor, especially once it has dried, than it takes to lay down some tarp or drop cloth on the floor to prevent the paint from getting there in the first place.
Bear in mind that you’re going to need to get the sort of tarp or drop cloth that won’t allow the paint to get through, or else you will have rather missed out on the point of doing it at all.
4. Choose A Color Carefully
Lastly, remember that when you are painting your dining room cabinets you have to be very careful with the color or colors that you choose.
Though you may find yourself in a store that sells paint and being very happy with how a paint color looks, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re going to like the look of that same color once it is on your cabinets.
A better thing to do is to get a few small samples of paint and apply them to your cabinets and then see how good the colors look — and choose based on that.
