Blackboard Painting

Chalkboard paint allows you to create a matt surface in different colors on which it is possible to write in chalk.
This paint is available ready to use in black, red, green and gray, but can also be tinted in the color of your choice.
Its finish is decorative, customizable, and offers many variations.

This water-based paint is environmentally friendly and is only suitable for indoor use.
Applicable on all surfaces and easy to maintain, blackboard paint, however, requires meticulous preparation in the event of a non-smooth and non-uniform surface.

Preparation

The surface must first be perfectly smooth; it is then prepared according to the type of substrate.
For the walls, the preparation consists of cleaning/degreasing, then the application of a primary undercoat if the walls have not yet been painted.
For surfaces such as wood, glass, or plastic, the application of a primer is necessary.
The glass is washed with washing-up liquid and then degreased with methylated spirits, while the laminate, after cleaning with washing-up liquid with a scouring pad, is thoroughly rinsed and dried.

Application

The application is carried out with an acrylic roller. It is necessary to apply two coats.

Magnetic painting

Loaded with ferrous particles, this paint transforms all surfaces into a magnetic board.

Magnetic paints offer a decorative, personalized, and original finish, whatever the medium. They can also be covered with all types of paint, and are easy to maintain.

However, they require meticulous preparation of the surface in the case of non-smooth or non-uniform surface and are reserved for indoor use only.

Preparation

The surface must be perfectly smooth so that the magnets adhere properly. Its preparation is then done according to the substrate:

• On wood or a surface composed of wood derivatives: sanding and dusting are essential before applying a coat of plaster; after drying, a new sanding is recommended before applying an undercoat.
• For glass: washing/degreasing and a primer undercoat is necessary before applying the paint.
• On absorbent surfaces, a primer must be applied.
• For plastics, they must be sanded or covered with a primary undercoat for a smooth surface, lightly sanded, and then dusted before application.
All other types of paint can be applied to this paint, provided four coats of magnetic paint are applied.
Blackboard paint allows for a double finish: writing and magnet. Magnets, preferably flat and 2 cm in diameter, are perfect for this use.

Application

The application is carried out with a roller for acrylic, medium bristles of 5mm.
It is necessary to apply two to three coats, allowing them to dry for the time indicated on the packaging.
The more the layers, the better the magnets will attach. In the aqueous phase (acrylic), the tools are cleaned with warm, soapy water, followed by thorough rinsing.
