Living Room Painting Mistakes Never To Make in Ottawa, Ontario

The fine work that needs to go into painting the interior walls of any given room is not one that should be taken lightly, yet many will look at the steps that need to happen in order to properly paint the walls of a room and toss aside half of them in order to save money or time – and yet in doing so end up wasting both of these when they invariably find themselves staring at a poorly painted room and need to start all over again.

The good thing that you should know is that if you are aware of what these painting mistakes are ahead of time, you can make sure that you avoid them and thus end up having a much better painted living room.

To help you get there, let’s discuss some living room mistakes never to make in Ottawa, Ontario.

1. Not Planning Your Project

One thing that you might do that is quite a mistake in terms of getting ready for your painting project is thinking that you can just dive into it without any planning whatsoever.

You figure you’re just going to go to the paint store, grab a couple of buckets of paint and a brush, and then you’re going to go home and start slapping the paint onto the walls until the walls look the right color, right?

Well first you may want to look up proper painting techniques before you start actually slapping paint onto the walls, but more to the point there is much importance in planning a painting project before you start.

Specifically, when you plan the project you should make the time to measure the walls that are going to be painted.

By doing this you’re going to be able to properly calculate the amount of paint that you will need as well as a primer (naturally) and also figure out when you will be painting versus when you should allow surfaces to dry – always an important thing.

2. Skipping The Cleaning Of Your Living Room

Those who have a painting project going on will do well to know that the preparation of the surfaces that are to be painted as well as the surrounding area can be just as important if not sometimes more important than the painting itself.

Therefore, it is important for your living room wall painting to completely clean all of the surfaces that are going to be painted as well as the areas nearby, for a number of reasons.

The surfaces probably make good sense to you – why would you want to paint a dusty wall and risk the likelihood that you’re just going to have dusty paint sitting on your walls?

Having a clean painting area should also make sense but if you’re unsure, let us explain – any dust in the area where you are painting could very well end up on the walls being painted, and that you can just imagine is not a good look.

3. Using The Wrong Kind Of Paint

Though there are many kinds of paint that are going to be available to you in the paint store, they’re not going to be all equally useful for your home interior painting project in your living room.

If you have a typical living room, you’re going to of course want to make use of a paint that’s meant for interior painting, but also make sure that your paint is glossier than not (flat paint, in other words) such that when the time inevitably comes and you’re going to find yourself with stains on the wall, you’re going to have an easier time doing so.

4. Assuming Paint Chips Work Perfectly

Lastly, remember that when you’re looking to choose the color or colors that you’re going to use for painting your living room, you have to do more than just go to the paint store and look at the paint chips or bits of paper that have the paint color printed on them.

The better thing that you can do is to get small paint samples from the paint store and make use of them to paint small squares (one for each color, that is) to see how the color will actually look in the room being painted in a number of different light conditions.

There are entire articles that we could write about the topic but for now, just know that it’s not something you should take lightly – think carefully about what color will be there for years to come.
